Sinan Yol, MD, FACS, Prof.:
Prof Sinan Yol, M.D., was born in 1967 in Samsun where he completed his primary and secondary education (Samsun Anatolian High School). He graduated from Istanbul Atatürk Science High School in 1985, then began Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (English Program). He graduated in 1991, started specialty education in general surgery at Istanbul University, Istanbul Medical Faculty and became general surgeon in 1996. He worked as a general surgeon at Istanbul Medical Faculty until 1997, and then at Haseki Education and Research Hospital until 1999. He completed his subspecialty education, (started in 1999) at Gastrointestinal Surgery Clinic (Department) of Turkish High Specialty Education and Research Hospital in 2001. He got Oncologic Surgeon degree in 2012. He became an Associate Professor in 2006, and a Professor in 2012.
He passed the ECFMG exams in 1992. He has been in different centers abroad on different dates in order to increase his experience and knowledge. Between January and December 1995, he worked with David E. Beck, M.D., Prof., Chair, as his research fellow at Ochsner Medical Center, Department of Colon & Rectal Surgery (U.S.A., Louisiana – New Orleans). The same year, he attended the courses of “Laparoscopic Surgery” and “Colon and Rectum Surgery” organized by the American College of Surgeons. Between November 2002 and April 2003, he worked as a clinical fellow with Kiuchi Tanaka, M.D., Prof., Chair, at Kyoto University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Transplantation and Immunology in Japan on liver transplantation (especially on living donor liver transplantation). Between January and March 2004, he attended training course in “Detection of early gastrointestinal cancer and related digestive tumors” in Japan (Keio University, School of Medicine, Department of General and Gastroenterological Surgery, Endoscopy Unit). Between April 2008 and April 2009, he worked as an international scholar on kidney, pancreas and pancreatic islet transplantation with Phillip O’Connell, M.D., Prof., at Sydney University, Westmead Institute for Medical Research, Westmead Clinical School, Centre for Transplant and Renal Research in Australia. Between June and September 2013, he was with the team headed by Şükrü Emre, M.D., Prof., at Yale University, School of Medicine, Yale-New Haven Organ Transplant Center (U.S.A., Connecticut – New Haven).
In 2009, he became the Chair of Gastrointestinal Surgery Clinic (Department) at Turkish High Specialty Education and Research Hospital. In 2011, he was appointed as the Chair of Gastrointestinal Surgery Clinic at Istanbul Kartal – Koşuyolu High Specialty Education and Research Hospital. In 2012, he began to work as a professor at Istanbul Medeniyet University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery. He served as a member and vice president of High Health Council between 2006-2008, a member of Medical Specialty Board between 2011-2013, and a member of Liver Transplant Science Committee between 2013-2014 at the Ministry of Health. He performed kidney transplantions at Göztepe Education and Research Hospital between 2015-2018. In 2018, he resigned from the university and started private practice.
He participated in many national and international congresses. He is the member of different surgical associations. He is married and is father of three daughters.
